In the absolute loosest sense, yes they "work". Are they an inexpensive replacement for modern (i.e. '99 spec) HID's....hell no, not even close. I have one of the old school phillips kits which a ballast finally died and so I replaced with Kaixen ballasts. Nothing has changed in their performance. All changes since these old school kits pertain to cost, ease of install....basically everything apart from actual light output quality. LOTS of threads where this has been beaten into the ground with the standard group of people denying reality while the rest layout the truth for you. Your choices, in order of most expensive to least, for true modern HID performance are to buy a set of '99 spec HID assemblies and be done with it, frankenstein a set of modern projectors into the Z32 headlight assembly (which several people have done and claim success), or go with one of these "retro fit" kits which simply replace the standard bulb you are using with an HID bulb and a ballast. The first is guaranteed success, the second is success dependent whether or not you successfully execute the project, the third is guaranteed fail.
